This is a vision indicator selected by the Nordic Council of Ministers. It relates to the target Gender equality under the area A socially sustainable Nordic region.

The indicator is a measure called the standardized index or the Karmel and MacLachlan index (IP). It can be interpreted as the proportion of the employed population (percent) that would need to change occupations in order to achieve an equal distribution of men and women between occupations.

Data used for calculations is collected from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) which is an inquiry directed to households, designed to obtain information on the labour market and related issues through a series of personal interviews. LFS adopted a new methodology from 2021 onwards, leading to a break in time series for all countries in 2021. For more information regarding the new methodology and its implications, see this article.

There are additional breaks in time series and some points show low reliability. Please refer to Eurostat (table: lfsa_egan2) and related metadata for more information.

In the table, the Nordic Region is comprised of the following countries/areas: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Åland is included in the data for Finland.
